Allergy Testing: Find the True Cause of Your Symptoms
People who suffer from allergy symptoms know all too well that allergies just make life more complicated than it needs to be. How can you enjoy hobbies, work, or playing with your kids if you are constantly suffering from painful allergy symptoms?
The good news is that at Sleep and Sinus Centers of Georgia we can diagnose and treat your allergies so that you can get back to living a happy and healthy life.
As a full service ENT, we can provide a more comprehensive examination than other places that only focus on providing the allergy test.
Allergy Testing: The skin prick test is a good way for your ENT professional to diagnose your allergens.
An ENT performs an allergy test to determine the severity and cause of your allergic reactions. The most common type of allergy test is the skin prick test but your ENT may also order a blood allergy test. Common allergies that may be tested are food, pollen, mold, pet dander, and dust mites.
During the skin prick test, up to 40 allergens can be tested at once. You will be pricked with a small amount of these substances to determine how your skin reacts to each one. It will help your ENT to determine the severity and cause of your allergies. Although allergy tests are a crucial part of discovering your allergens, they may not tell the whole story. To get the big picture you may need a full and comprehensive allergy examination that can include:
- Gathering a list of symptoms
- A CT scan
- Allergy testing
- Treatment option discussion
Do I need to go to my ENT for an allergy test? Why can’t I just go to an allergy testing facility?
As allergy testing becomes more and more popular, testing locations are popping up all over the country. People who think they are suffering from allergies go to these locations rather than their ENT. It is important to visit your ENT for all sinus and allergy related issues because these other places may not provide a full examination.
Without the full examination, the cause of your symptoms may be overlooked. Sinus issues are usually caused by structural issues in the nasal passages regardless of your allergy test results. This means that while you may be suffering from allergies that do need to be treated, the underlying causes of your congestion and nasal symptoms will not be taken care of at an allergy testing facility.
At Sleep and Sinus Centers of Georgia, we can give you a full examination to rule out any other issues before jumping right into allergy testing.
