The Problem with CPAP

Sometimes it's the Little Things

When discussing new treatment options of any disorder, one must consider the current gold-standard therapy. As it relates to OSA, the current gold-standard is considered to be CPAP.

Unfortunately patients’ abilities to tolerate using CPAP have been historically poor. Some studies can report compliance rates as low as 30%.

This can be from a range a reasons, including but not limited to:

  • Discomfort while sleeping.
  • Pressure requirements being too high.
  • Pressure necrosis along nasal bridge.
  • Disruption to bed partner’s sleep.

These problems often cause patients to seek alternate options to CPAP for their OSA. If you are interested in finding out more about how we can treat your sleep apnea without using CPAP, feel free to schedule a consultation with Dr. Dillard!
